Did Someone Say Shopping?

For everyone who loves to shop while traveling (and who doesn’t, right?), owner of Villa at Kirkside, Mary Lavoire has been kind enough to share some great tips in her favorite downtown St. Augustine shops listed below.

St George Area • The Panama Hat Company for lovely Panama hats and other items from Latin America. • Red Pineapple has great costume jewelry and clothing.• Fresh Produce, part of a chain, has comfy cotton clothing as well as jewelry • The shops at the Colonial Quarter have a nice assortment of gift items to take home, jewelry, pottery, beautiful Spanish decorative tiles etc. • For Mexican and Spanish pottery check out Market to Market.I love their assortment of Sangria pitchers and tiled mirrors.

If you don’t mind a short drive out of town on US 1 North, their warehouse Tierra Fina, is on the right, past the airport in a little business center. All items at the warehouse are always 20% off, worth the trip. The Historic Pena Peck House houses the Women’s Exchange which, I am told has unique gift items as well. I have not yet visited that establishment.

Uptown, A stroll Uptown on San Marco past the Castillo will lead you to shops such as • Amistad for fair trade items, clothing, pottery, jewelry
• Declaration Boutique, Goldfinch, Spanish Dutch Convoy Company   or gorgeous discounted handbags. • DHD Home for decorative items for the home, pillows  60 Boutique for one of a kind clothing. The proprietress Helena will find just the right piece for you • ETC for fine furniture, home goods and garden items. Aviles Street The shops on Aviles Street are also fun to check out. • Candida’s for fine clothing and beautiful beaded jewelry all made by the owner. • There are several Art Galleries here all worth checking out. • Butterfield Art Gallery and Rembrandtz Gallery on King Street, as you head out of town, have beautiful art work as well as glass pieces. Two of my favorites for clothing off St George are October House for unique, fun designer clothing and Gabrielle’s, both owned by the same family. On Anastasia Island my favorite home goods/gift shop is Tre Sebastian with lovely linens, glassware, jewelry and one of a kind gifts, lots of silverware in a beachy theme. Christe Blue, has top of the line consignment clothing and jewelry. I love their formal wear section. The owners are very special and offer tea, coffee.
