Stay in Cabo: Where Desert Meets the Ocean

Article & Photos by Noreen Kompanik

Mention Cabo San Lucas and most people who’ve been there will tell you about the iconic El Arco, the natural archway in the sea cliffs that is Cabo’s most photographed site. Located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, Cabo is know for its sun-splashed beaches, water sports and nightlife. The sun shines an amazing 350 days a year.

Average year- round temperatures range from the low 70s to the mid-90s in late summer and high season covers the winter to early spring months. No matter when you come, don’t forget the sunscreen.

Past stays in Cabo have always been memorable, but, this time was even more so with the opportunity to stay at the private Residences of Hacienda Encantada on the centrally-located Cabo Corridor. Our spectacular 3 bedroom, 4 bath luxury oceanfront villa provided our family with an unbelievable 3,000 square feet of living space and can sleep up to 10.

As amazing as the inside of the villa appears, when we walked through the front door, all eyes were focused on what lay before us through the open glass doors in the back of the residence – stunning views of the azure waters of the Sea of Cortez. Like a moth to a flame, we were drawn to the immense natural beauty of the residence and its grounds and how much living space there was in the outside patio area alone.

Warm, gentle ocean breezes slowly guided a beach ball through the cerulean blue water of the infinity edge pool, complete with a swim-up bar and jacuzzi. After nightfall on our first day in Cabo, while relaxing in the outdoor enchantment of our accommodations, we gazed upward with awestruck delight as a shooting star blazed a brilliant path across the starlit sky. Truly a magical first evening in a very spectacular setting.

The completely private outdoor area also featured a fire pit surrounded by comfy, cozy pillowed-seating and plenty of space to lounge, eat or watch the Baja sunset. Umbrellas are a perfect touch on the sun deck when adults or the little ones have had enough of that gloriously radiating Baja sun. And there’s even a hammock inviting us to chill and sway awhile! For those who love to grill like us, a full-sized covered barbeque and bar area overlooking the pool is available to cook some of our sizzling Baja favoriteslobster and shrimp.

The inside of the spacious, well-laid out villa exudes the perfect blend of traditional Mexican décor with modern luxury, designed so guests can socialize together, yet feel as though everyone has their own space.

The fully-equipped kitchen, outfitted with high-end stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, has every possible item needed for guests who enjoy cooking and family dining in the comfort of a homesetting. We loved the hanging copper pots over the island. A full dining room is located just off the kitchen area and bar seating is also available at the kitchen island.

Open living room area has ample comfortable seating and a sofa bed that opens for double sleeping if needed. Though not really television watchers ourselves while on vacation, a massive satellite offers guests the option should they feel the need to be more connected with the rest of the world. Both the master bedroom and a second guest bedroom located at the opposite end of the house have king beds, full baths, outside entrances and views overlooking the pool and ocean. A third bedroom to the front of the house is equipped with two queen beds. All rooms were tastefully decorated in delightful Mexican fashion, and completely outfitted with soft, comfortable bedding. Four bathrooms, all custom-designed with tiled walls and marble floors include every possible amenity needed for its guests- towels, robes, hair dryer, and even luxurious bath products. An actual separate laundry room makes a vacation so much easier. We kept that in mind when considering how much to pack knowing we could wash and dry our bathing suits and clothes whenever needed.

Although separate from the Hacienda Encantada Resort, the Residences enjoy the hospitality services of this beautiful adjacent coastal property overlooking the Sea of Cortez, and its facilities are available to all Residence guests.

The resort has three restaurants on site including Las Marias perched dramatically over the granite cliffs offering stunning day and night-time vistas. The resort sports two pools, a full menu of spa services which we loved, rental car assistance and a concierge to help with reservations or booking local attractions. Free shuttle service is also available to Cabo’s marina area from the resort lobby.

With a prime location, picturesque ocean views, luxury accommodations and privacy from the energetic buzz of downtown Cabo, a stay at the Residences at Hacienda Encantada is one we won’t likely soon forget.
